We will be working on the idea of designing an build an “overnight shelter” which we called BASE:
BASE is inspired by a law, common in various countries and depicted in Vittorio De Sica’s film Il Tetto (1956), which held that if someone managed to build a house overnight, they could claim the right to inhabit it.
Inspired by architecture as a practice of survival, BASE aims to construct a shelter that can be assembled in a single night. Rooted in simplicity and informed by traditional building techniques, the workshop seeks to rethink the foundations of architecture, interweaving tradition and innovation to create livable spaces under emergency conditions.
At the Institute for Spatial Thinking, we believe in the transformative power of spatial relationships.
Our mission is to cultivate a deeper knowledge and a broader understanding of the interplay between physical spaces and human experiences.
Our vision is to promote a comprehensive view of the space that transcends the boundaries of traditional disciplines. Our methodologies empower professionals, individuals, and their communities to improve and apply their spatial knowledge as a driving force for social change. We encourage a transdisciplinary approach, defining a broad operational framework in which inclusivity, responsiveness and cultural public awareness are at the core.
